CAIRNS had its beginnings with the invention of the first American fire helmet
by a volunteer firefighter in 1836. CAIRNS is part of the GLOBE family and over the years, has been responsible
for introducing many of the materials, designs, and construction methods we now take for granted. GLOBE CAIRNS invented
waterproof coat construction method that is still in use in the fire servicve today and manufactured the world's first "Firefighter's
Suit". GLOBE CAIRNS was the first to use DuPont Nomex flame and thermal resistant materials, first to
use 3M SCOTCHLITE reflective materials, and the first to usE CROSSTECH moisture barriers.
